Location: Bethesda Primary Care Centre, Steinbach
Employment Type: Temporary, 0.50 Full Time Equivalent (FTE)
Salary Range: $61.67 - $75.53 per hour
Work Schedule: Days, evenings, nights, weekends; various shifts
Position Overview: The midwife is an autonomous practitioner who provides safe, flexible maternity care to women in a variety of settings such as the client’s home, community clinics and hospitals. The role is to be the primary care provider to women accepted into care and their newborn during the childbearing year. The midwife works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, delivering services in accordance with Southern Health‑Santé Sud policies and the Midwifery Model of Practice, and the Standards of the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
Care is provided until six weeks postpartum, followed by continuity of access to public health/primary care. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods, and performs the role consistently with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Provide maternity care to women and newborns across multiple settings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver services per professional standards.
- Maintain continuity of care beyond the childbearing year by referring clients to appropriate services.
- Make autonomous decisions on work priorities and respond to unusual matters.
- Knowledge of the Midwifery Model of Practice and Standards.
- Proficiency with computer applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and initiate tasks.
- Skill in building positive working relationships as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Self‑motivation and flexibility to meet role demands.
- Ability to work flexible hours scheduled by client needs.
- Respect for and promotion of cultural diversity.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French); bilingualism required for this position.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Good record of attendance and punctuality.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, a suitable insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
- Graduate of a program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification with intubation.
- Active eligibility for registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
- Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the role.
- No exposure to hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
