Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) applies the nursing process to support clients, residents, or patients in achieving and maintaining their optimum level of health within a people-centered approach in acute, transitional, personal care home (PCH), primary health care, Public Health‑Healthy Living, and/or home care. The RN/RPN works to the full scope of practice, engages in ongoing education, and maintains competency consistent with Southern Health‑Santé Sud policies, Professional Standards of Practice, the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba, the Code of Ethics, and the Regulated Health Professions Act.

The incumbent exercises initiative and independent judgment to determine work priorities, methods, and actions on unusual matters in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health‑Santé Sud.

Certification and Licensure
  • Current active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba / College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses and the scope of practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification applicable to Acute, Transitional, PCH, Primary Care, Public Health‑Healthy Living, Home Care, Oncology/Cancer Care.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.

  • Knowledge of Professional Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative interdisciplinary environment that supports quality services, quality improvement, and staff empowerment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and inquiring approach to problem‑solving while contributing to program improvement.
  • Autonomous decision‑making and leadership ability.
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to meet the demands of the position.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Respect for cultural diversity and ability to promote it in a culturally diverse population.
  • Confidentiality handling of paper, electronic formats, and other mediums.
  • Good work and attendance record.
Physical Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
Background Checks and References

Completes and maintains a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
