Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional registered nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. Responsibilities include independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, leadership within the healthcare team, and facilitating coordination of patient care and discharge. The RN must demonstrate commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.
Experience
One-year current Post-Anesthesia (phase 2 of recovery) and surgical nursing experience required.
Experience in outpatient surgery required.
Experience in Endoscopy, Cystoscopy, Minor Locals and ECT preferred.
Satisfactory employment record required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
Certification in Conscious Sedation required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Must maintain and provide proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
Qualifications And Skills
Knowledge of:
College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
Must possess nursing care knowledge related to the clinical area.
Must understand mandatory legislated acts such as the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and others.
Must understand the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
Must understand the principles of delegation.
Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Preference will be given to those competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledgeable in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Must have demonstrated critical thinking/problem‑solving skills.
Must be able to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
Must be able to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
Must recognize and pursue self‑development opportunities.
Must perform independently as well as part of the healthcare team.
Must adapt quickly to changing situations.
Must maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.
Must function in a demanding and stressful environment.
Must be proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Physical Requirements
Must perform moderate to heavy physical effort.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in the collective agreement.
Must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check within six (6) months of the start of employment. The employee must cover any service charges incurred.
