Position: Registered Psychiatric Nurse/NurseSH Acute Area 12 SMHC (Selkirk)

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services or designate, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing skilled registered nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. This includes independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, leadership within the healthcare team, and facilitation of coordination of patient care and discharge.

Responsibilities
  • Provide skilled registered nursing care to patients, including those with complex needs.
  • Perform independent nursing services and administer prescribed medical treatments.
  • Assume a leadership role within the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Psychiatric Nursing program or approved Registered Nursing program.
  • Maintain active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Recent related mental health experience preferred; up to 2 years of experience may be required or preferred.
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) per employer policy.
  • Active participation in professional associations such as the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
Knowledge
  • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Regional, facility, and unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Nursing care knowledge related to the clinical area.
  • Relevant legislated acts including the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).

Physical Requirements

Moderate to heavy physical effort is required.

Background Check

The position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if obtained within six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
