The Registered Nurse (RN), provides a wide variety of nursing services to patients. The RN uses standard nursing processes including thorough critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teaches, counsels and advocates on behalf of patients. The RN acts in accordance with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards and scope of practice, the National Association of Post-Anesthesia Nurses of Canada, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures.

The RN possesses the related education and clinical experience to assess, treat and educate patients undergoing and recovering from a wide variety of surgical procedures.

• Collaborates with all members of the health care team.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substances regulations.
• Documents patient care appropriately in the medical record.
• Participates cooperatively and communicates effectively with team members
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
• Participates in educational programs as required.
• Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
• Performs related duties as assigned by leader.

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 2 – 3 years recent experience in an acute care post-anesthetic care unit environment.
• Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba
• Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) peri-anesthesia certification or critical care certification preferred. Completion of a post-secondary educational institution peri-anesthesia nursing or critical care nursing program/Completion of a health authority peri-anesthesia or critical care education program and/or the equivalent in education and experience.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).PREFERRED
• Certification and recent experience with IV initiation.

• Advanced knowledge of regional anesthesia, neuroaxial anesthesia, multimodal analgesia and chronic pain.

• Must be able to work staggered shifts, possibly extended shifts/overtime occasionally.
• Excellent assessment, organization, communication and team interaction skills.
