The opportunity:The University of Manitoba is seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinarian to help advance excellence in animal care and welfare across our leading-edge research and teaching facilities. Under the leadership of the Director of the Animal Care and Use Program, you will provide expert clinical care for a diverse range of species, collaborate with researchers and animal care staff, and play a key role in supporting ethical and responsible animal use.
From protocol review and facility inspections to compliance oversight and animal welfare leadership, you'll have a direct impact on both animal well-being and the success of innovative research programs. - Must have D.V.M. and be eligible for licensing in Manitoba.
- One full year working with laboratory animals and one year of large animal experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of Canadian Council on Animal Care Guidelines an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Skill in handling and restraint of various species of animals, as well as diagnosis and treatment of a variety of species is required.
- Good surgical skills, blood collection techniques and other standard veterinary techniques are required.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal, are required.
- Ability to interpret and formulate feedback/articulate key messages is required.
- Ability to use inclusive, respectful language in all communication is required.
- Ability to carry out all aspects of the position with a high degree of tact, confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion and professionalism is required.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision is required.
- Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment and action in meeting the responsibilities is required.
- Ability to multi‑task and work accurately under pressure is required.
- Ability to evaluate large documents for completeness, consistency, and compliance is required.

- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Acts as a resource to and participates in the activities of the Animal Care Committees including protocol review, facility and laboratory inspections.
- Assists in animal use protocol review and participates in the activities of the Animal Care Committees, keeping abreast of new research techniques, including the 3 Rs (Reduction, Refinement, Replacement), and settling humane endpoints.
- Will be involved in the ethical review of all animal based research activities through the review of the animal use protocol.
