Salary: $17.22 - $20.10 per hour plus 6% vacation pay
Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview
The person selected for this position will perform in silico and wet laboratory research to develop a panel of variable genetic markers to assess population structure of lake whitefish in Manitoba. The work will involve bioinformatic and genetic analysis as well as experimental work including DNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis and data analysis.
Duties
Bioinformatics analysis of DNA sequence data
DNA extraction
PCR
Qualifications
Knowledge of populations genetics, ideally 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student with a major in Biology or related discipline.
Prior experience of DNA extraction and PCR.
Able to work in a laboratory and field setting.
Condition(s) of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from May 22, 2026 - September 18, 2026 and the estimated total hours of work will be 250 - 360 hours .
