* The Technician – Subatomic Physics Major Research Support (SAP-MRS) is a full-time term role that will support research activities in subatomic physics by building, operating, and maintaining scientific equipment/facilities and by providing technical support to researchers. These activities support projects of interest to the nuclear and particle physics communities with experimental programs supported by the Institute of Particle Physics, and the Canadian Institute for Nuclear Physics.
Responsibilities
Actively participates in research projects by interpreting research needs, recording the results of experiments, interpreting data, and analysing the significance of results achieved.
Designs and builds mechanical, magnetic, electronic, computer or other scientific equipment by using specialized software (custom developed software as well as computer aided design, computer algebra systems, simulation, etc.) and operating fabrication equipment (milling machine, lathe, band saw, etc.) to meet experiment requirements.
Specify purchase orders related to ongoing projects including obtaining price and service quotations, communicating with suppliers, researchers, and keeping reports.
Qualifications
BSc in physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline (engineering or physical sciences) or Diploma plus five years of directly related experience.
MSc in physics, electrical or mechanical engineering an Asset.
Three years of directly related experience.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, establish schedules and deadlines for work processes.
Ability to exercise independent judgement.
Highly developed oral and written communication skills with ability to demonstrate and/or explain detailed technical procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public.
Ability to supervise and direct the work of other employees at the same or lower levels.
Must be knowledgeable about all safety procedures, computer software, equipment, materials, and chemicals used in physics teaching and research labs.
Must be able to keep accurate and complete records.
Capable of performing physical duties as assigned.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The salary range for this position will be from $30.09 to $42.77 hourly.
