- Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Master’s degree directly related to social justice and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) is required. Areas of study that include as many of the following areas as possible is ideal:equity, equality, anti-racism, anti-oppression, gender diversity, Indigeneity, Accessibility, diversity and inclusion.
A PhD is preferred.
A combination of lived experience and formal education will be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
Five to seven years of firsthand experience working to advance Research EDIA knowledge and skills with diverse populations is required.
Experience with research and in post-secondary contexts is required.
Demonstrated experience setting and managing a schedule, reviewing, developing and utilizing Research EDIA resources, and training diverse participants is required.
Experience building relationships and offering differentiated support to diverse groups is required.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong time-management skills, EDIA knowledge and skills, and experience with relationship building is required.
Knowledge of how to assess gaps in Research EDIA knowledge and skills and how to fill those gaps is required.
Skill in tailoring support sessions, loading information provided in a balanced way and following-up after initial contact is required.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and analyse diverse EDIA resources for effectiveness and suitability to the research topic(s) is required.
Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to maintain a repertoire for self-care needed to do EDIA work, including the ability to request support from the supervisor and colleagues when needed is required.
Key responsibilities
Research EDIA Leadership and Strategy:
Provide expertise on Research EDIA considerations as it relates to strategy, planning, and in the preparation and submission of institutional and strategic grant proposals.
Conduct annual planning activities, so all Research EDIA priorities are aligned with the University’s strategic planning framework, and the 2024-29 Strategic Research Plan. Ensure the UM is modernized and leads other institutions in Research EDIA practices.
Grants and projects:
Provide direct specialist advice to researchers (individual or team level) on best practices for integrating EDIA considerations into their research programs.
Specifically, for large-scale (e.g., NFRF-Transformation) and strategic research applications and project proposals, identify, develop, and propose innovative approaches to addressing inclusion in research and research translation.
Data gathering/tracking/interpretation:
Refine effective processes, by gathering data on the current landscape of EDIA practice internally and externally (national and international) such as which beneficial practices or organizational structures have been tested and shown to positively impact progress indicators towards EDIA excellence and recognitions.
Work with other Offices and individuals as needed, for example to collect quantitative or qualitative data on topics within EDIA; to develop performance management indicators to monitor EDIA progress in the UM research enterprise.
Lead oral and written communications:
Increase knowledge sharing within UM (at all levels) and beyond (e.g., community partners) of best practices for Research EDIA. Develop and deliver training to researchers and grant reviewers about Research EDIA matters.
