Graduate Student; MSc or PhD

The Booth Lab in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Manitoba is seeking a candidate to join our research team as a graduate student (MSc or PhD). Our work focuses on investigating the molecular weapons that bacteria use to attack other bacteria.

The successful candidate will explore how interstrain bacterial weapons produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus function in media representing infection conditions, and how other bacteria influence their effectiveness. Using colony biofilm competition assays in media that mimic wound and lung environments, you will examine how environmental factors and bacterial co-infections influence the outcome of interbacterial competitions. This research aims to understand how interstrain competition is influenced by the presence of other bacteria and infection conditions.

We welcome diverse applicants with a background in microbiology, molecular biology, or a similar discipline. Experience with bacterial culture, or molecular biology techniques is an asset. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a passion for science is essential!
