Genebright Biosolutions Inc. (GBB) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Laboratory Technician to support ongoing research projects in plant pathology, molecular diagnostics, and crop disease management
. The successful candidate will work closely with research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students, contributing to laboratory, greenhouse, and occasional field-based research activities.
This position is ideal for recent graduates or senior undergraduate/graduate students seeking hands-on experience in applied agricultural and microbiological research.
Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory & Molecular Work
- Assist with routine laboratory activities including sample processing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR setup
, and gel electrophoresis - Support pathogen isolation, culturing, purification, and long-term storage of fungal and bacterial cultures
- Execute and manage high-throughput molecular marker assays (
PCR, qPCR,
SNP/KASP/GBS or similar) to support breeding and market-driven trait development in different crops. - Perform DNA extraction, quality control,
genotyping
, and data curation for trait‑specific markers (e.g., fertility restoration, disease resistance, herbicide tolerance, sex expression, chemotype). - Prepare culture media, buffers, reagents, and molecular biology consumables
- Assist in maintaining culture collections
, plant materials, and samples stored at –80 °C - Support the evaluation and optimization of DNA- and RNA-based diagnostic assays for pathogen detection
- Record, organize, and manage experimental data accurately
- Assist with statistical analysis and data visualization using software such as R, or Python.
- Support preparation of figures, summaries, and datasets for reports, presentations, or publications
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., qPCR, gel documentation systems)
- Maintain chemical and biological inventories and databases
- Assist with ordering laboratory supplies and consumables
- Ensure compliance with chemical safety, biosafety, and institutional protocols
- Assist students and research staff as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support ongoing research projects
- Master’s degree (or currently enrolled) in Biology, Microbiology, Plant Science, Biotechnology, or a related field
- Strong laboratory experience (academic or industry)
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and record‑keeping
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment
- Experience with PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction
, or plant pathology - Familiarity with fungal or bacterial culturing techniques
- Experience with greenhouse or field research
- Basic knowledge of R or Python for data analysis
- Previous experience in an agricultural or research laboratory
- Part‑time position; hours flexible and to be discussed
- Hourly wage commensurate with experience and qualifications
