The Safety & Security Director is responsible for ensuring that all Pride Winnipeg events are safe, secure, and compliant with health and safety regulations. This role oversees risk management, emergency preparedness, and on-site security operations to create a safe environment for all attendees, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement the Pride Winnipeg Health & Safety Operations Plan to ensure a secure event experience.
- Recruit and coordinate first aid personnel for events, ensuring adequate coverage.
- Ensure all first aid kits are fully stocked and readily accessible before each event.
- Serve as the Health & Safety Leader unless otherwise designated by the Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with event managers to ensure event site plans meet safety and accessibility standards.
- Oversee the setup and takedown of events, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Conduct Event Safety & Security Checklists and resolve any identified risks before event openings.
- Lead health and safety orientations for Managing Members and volunteers.
- Implement and maintain hazard control measures for all events.
- Conduct risk assessments on event content and introduce safety measures as needed.
- Investigate and document all incidents to ensure appropriate follow-up and prevention strategies.
- Perform an annual Safety & Security Review and present findings to the Board of Directors.
- Develop and oversee the Event Safety & Security Plan in collaboration with third‑party security personnel.
- Assist event managers in selecting and coordinating with a security firm for event security.
- Act as the key point of contact in emergency situations, implementing Pride Winnipeg's Emergency Management Plans as needed.
- Prepare and present an annual Safety & Security Report to the Board of Directors at the end of the Pride planning year.
- Strong leadership and decision‑making skills, with the ability to respond effectively under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including event managers, volunteers, and security personnel.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and direct teams.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation is an asset.
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified. Narcan training is an asset.
- Security guard certification is considered an asset.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work well under pressure.
Age ranges: 18–30, 31–54, 55+.
Time commitment:
Daytime, Evening, Weekend, Flexible Hours.
