Responsibilities for Library Security Guard
Provide a visible security presence and patrol all floors during operational hours.Control access at library entrances, operate metal detection gates, and welcome visitors.Monitor security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control) and respond to incidents.Collaborate with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to maintain a safe environment.Assist the public with information and directions in a professional manner.Follow opening/closing procedures, including securing doors, elevators, and rooms.Maintain visitor/contractor lists, logs, and reports of unusual occurrencesAddress incidents, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency teamsWrite incident reports and communicate security concernsAnswer questions in person or by phoneQualifications for Library Security Guard
Be authorized to work in CanadaHold a valid Manitoba security licenseFirst aid certification an assetExceptional customer service skillsProficient in basic phone & computer skillsStrong customer service and communication skills (fluent in English).Skilled in conflict de-escalation, trauma-informed safety, anti-racism, and cultural awareness.Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies.Physically and mentally fit for duties.Professional appearance and positive attitudeThis could be more than a job!
