Position: Patrol Officer )

Position Overview

Patrols buildings and property of the Health Sciences Centre to create a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors. Ensures that laws, rules and regulations are enforced in a prudent and reasonable fashion as they apply to Security, Fire Safety and both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Detects and deals with unlawful acts, assists medical/nursing staff when requested, and directs and assists visitors throughout the facility.

Maintains accurate records of duty activities and documents all incident reports for proper investigative action.

Experience
  • Prior security, law enforcement, military and related experience an asset.
Education
  • Completion of grade 12 Manitoba standard high school or equivalent.
  • Manitoba Security Guard license.
Certification & Licensing
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Valid Manitoba Security Guard License and/or any future license mandated by Manitoba Justice.
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check within six (6) months of employment start.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work at extreme heights to support Heli‑port operation.
  • Ability to perform activities that include pre‑landing inspections, activation of emergency systems and assisting patient off‑loads.
  • Fluent reading, writing, speaking and understanding of English.
  • Ability to use a two‑way radio.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
  • Confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
  • Judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to stressful situations.
  • Mature, professional manner and effective communication.
Physical Requirements
  • Position requires a considerable amount of walking and the physical ability to restrain or evict unauthorized individuals.
