Manager, Security Team
Position Overview
The WRHA Security Team is dedicated to providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, promoting security awareness within the healthcare facility. The manager ensures the protection of people and property, enforces hospital rules and policies, and maintains an acceptable level of order and safety.
Main FunctionUnder the general direction of the Director, Facilities Support Services, the Manager of the WRHA Security Team supports overall security services operations, including access control, security response to contingencies and emergencies, and physical safeguards for designated WRHA hospitals. The role ensures day‑to‑day operational activities are carried out efficiently, maintains adequate security coverage, and analyzes security data, KPIs, and incident reviews to improve policies and procedures.
Experience- Five years supervisory experience in a hospital or institutional security department, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated leadership at the department level, including budgeting, site security coordination, operational planning, and supervisory/management staff development.
- Successfully complete the Healthcare Institutional Safety Officer training and demonstrate competency to be designated as per the Police Services Act, Institutional Safety Officer program.
- Maintain ongoing competency and capacity to retain that designation.
- High school education to Manitoba Standards is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Criminology, Justice, or another relevant discipline is required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable working with security and electronic camera systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and codes for law enforcement.
- Complete the Healthcare Institutional Safety Officer training and maintain competency for designation.
- Eligible for ISO Certification through the Provincial Attorney General's Department.
- Preferred:
Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator by IAHSS or Certified Protection Professional by ASIS. - Maintain a valid Manitoba Security Guard License.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Demonstrated management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and related regulations.
- Completion of relevant security courses;
Federal, Provincial, Municipal, or Military Police training is an asset.
- Meet safe response and resistance training standards, with regular retesting.
- Minimum vision and hearing requirements, with regular testing.
- Physical ability, vision, and hearing standards aligned with national standards and Manitoba Justice requirements.
- Testing is part of the ISO training program and required throughout employment.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will bear any service charges incurred. Checks must be no more than six (6) months old.
