The Manitoba government recognizes the importance of building an exemplary public service reflective of the citizens it serves, where diverse abilities, backgrounds, cultures, identities, languages and perspectives drive a high standard of service and innovation.

The Manitoba government supports equitable employment practices and promotes representation of designated groups (women, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, visible minorities). This is a preference competition. All applicants are encouraged to apply, however first consideration for this competition will be given to Indigenous people. Applicants are requested to self‑declare at the time of application.

An eligibility list may be created to fill similar regular, term, part‑time and/or full‑time positions in Northern Region and will remain in effect for 12 months. Candidates who do not meet all essential criteria may be considered on an underfill basis at a commensurate rate of pay. Candidates are required to submit a resume and cover letter (Word or PDF only).

Responsibilities

The Community Service Worker (CSW) for Community Living dis ABILITY Services (CLdS)/Children's dis ABILITY Services (CdS) will participate in, and often act as the lead on, a Service Coordination team, which may include Health, Education and Early Childhood Learning, child welfare agencies, private non‑profit agencies, Justice, Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), and Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities (MSPD). The CSW is a liaison between families, advocates, other government and community‑based agencies, and the individuals they serve.

You will use a family‑centred/person‑centred approach to deliver discipline‑based services and intervention strategies to individuals and families. The CSW is responsible for the coordination and delivery of protection services, support services, crisis management, and the Substitute Decision‑Making process as outlined in The Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability Act.

The work is fast‑paced and challenging. You will assess, plan, implement, and monitor services on behalf of children, families, or vulnerable individuals. You will collaborate with other professionals, advocate for program clients, plan successful transitions to childcare, the school system, and alternate placements, coordinate day activity programming, counsel program clients, and represent CLdS/CdS to other stakeholders, the community, and families. CSWs are often required to assist with issues arising from domestic violence, trauma, disability, abuse, mental and emotional challenges, loss, addiction, homelessness, and family breakdown.

Developing the necessary supports and network of services that enable an individual to gain independence, reach their full potential, and strengthen their ability to function successfully despite these challenges is extremely rewarding. As a CSW, you will positively impact the lives of families, children, and clients, enhancing their experiences moving forward.
