The Metis Spirit Worker (MSW) is responsible for the service delivery and coordination of the Metis Spirit Program of the MCFCS Agency, mentoring and coaching youth in care and Young Adults on AYA/SYA, providing individual counselling, connecting young adults with community-based supports, group programming, and completing administrative and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support services to young adults.
- Work in close collaboration with agency workers, Mazoun staff and other significant individuals involved with youth.
- Complete all reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate group programs.
- Post‑secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Social Sciences.
- Three years' experience working with youth and/or young adults.
- Experiential knowledge of being in care is an asset.
- Experience in programming, co‑facilitating and conducting group work conferences/seminars.
- Experience working with Metis people.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of all provincial programs by the Employment and Income Assistance, Housing, Employment Agencies, Educational Institutions and Employers to make appropriate referrals.
- Familiarity with community resources available to youth and young adults, including MMF programs and services.
- Ability to help youth with their MMF Citizenship application.
- Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with the Strength Based approach.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Crisis intervention skills/techniques.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Applicant must provide Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check and driver's abstract at hire.
- Valid Manitoba driver's licence and use of a personal vehicle required for travel.
