Shelter Assistant

Position: Shelter Assistant at The Lighthouse
Embrace a fulfilling role as a Shelter Assistant with The Lighthouse in Orillia, Ontario. This full-time, temporary position supports the homeless community through advocacy and direct service efforts.

The Lighthouse is looking for a dedicated Shelter Assistant for an 8-week program aimed at helping individuals experiencing homelessness. Engaging with community members, ensuring adherence to policies, and providing a supportive environment are vital aspects of this role. Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a Social Service Worker program for effective advocacy and relationship building.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop healthy relationships with shelter participants

• Help de-escalate conflicts and guide resolutions

• Monitor participant behavior for safety and compliance

• Assist during meal service and manage resources

• Respond promptly to participant inquiries

Requirements:

• Enrolled in or graduated from a relevant Social Service Worker program

• Aged between 15 and 30 at employment start

• Canadian citizen or permanent resident

• Must have a valid Social Insurance Number

• Commitment to trauma-informed practices
