- Minimum formal education required:
Bachelor’s degree or College diploma or certificate in a related discipline. - One year experience in a University setting and familiarity with HR processes and policies; an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook) and Internet; some experience with Aurora Finance and Banner; excellent communication skills, verbal and written; excellent organizational skills; ability to work with little supervision and under pressure; ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks and liaise with individuals/groups; high degree of integrity, professionalism and sensitivity; teamwork with other support staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences;
satisfactory work record, attendance and punctuality.
- Creates an implementation plan for family supports on campus and works closely with several units within Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and the larger University to operationalize plans.
- Puts forward a capital plan for the creation of a Family Centre on campus and other key initiatives (e.g., addition of change tables, etc.).
- Advocates for family supports on campus through the creation of business plans.
- Develops and implements a plan for online resources for family centre supports including a website, resource material, campus maps (highlighting family supports), etc.
- Provides information, guidance and referrals on family care issues; assists faculty, staff and students in securing appropriate childcare; creates a support network for individuals returning from maternity/parental leave and other family‑related leaves, independently organizing programming for the support network as required.
- Meets with faculty, staff, and students to discuss their needs (pregnancy, maternity leaves, childcare, etc.).
- Creates guidelines for a reintegration plan for employees when returning to work after family leave; works with HR and senior leadership in Rady FHS to ensure consistency in approach and practice with respect to employees returning to work after family leaves.
- Reviews existing policies with respect to family leaves/absences and puts forward suggestions to the appropriate individuals/units for improvement and inclusiveness, working through the appropriate channels of consultation and approval for suggested improvements.
- Facilitates group sessions (Parenting in Residency, Rady Parent Discussion groups/parent‑meet‑ups) and secures speakers on various topics.
- Coordinates and attends Kids Club onsite one Saturday morning each month.
- Develops, implements and delivers programs as identified by the needs assessment; oversees and manages programs’ success once implemented.
- Develops and implements meaningful benchmarks to measure the success of the overall portfolio.
- Develops and administers a needs assessment survey to capture family needs in Rady FHS.
- Initially acts as “Ombudsperson”; can be approached in confidence about concerns relating to family care and life changes.
- Establishes resource information for the family centre (day‑care lists, resource information); meets with new faculty, staff, students to answer questions and familiarize with available resources.
- Conducts an environmental scan of the U15 to determine what family supports are available and presents the findings with direction to leadership on how to move them forward.
- Identifies external trends and recognises best practices.
- Manages the child‑feeding room and locates appropriate nursing spaces in clinical sites.
