Adult Homeshare Provider

The Homeshare (Lighthouse) Program

We are looking for people, couples and families who want to share their home and help participants with FASD, and other complex needs, live in an environment focused on building life skills and relationships. The Homeshare Program helps adults with FASD live in a supportive home. As a Homeshare Provider you will open your home. Be part of the persons support team.

You will help create an environment where they can learn new skills do things they enjoy and feel like they belong. This is not a caregiving role. It's a chance to build a relationship with someone and help them live independently.

The program has been named “The Lighthouse Program” as our care provider homes are seen as beacons of hope across the city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome and share your home with a participant who requires support.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive living environment.
  • Support daily routines and promote healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Assist with the development of life skills, including cooking, budgeting, household management, and personal organization.
  • Encourage participants to make their own choices, decisions, and pursue their personal goals.
  • Provide support with appointments, recreational activities, and community participation.
  • Foster social connections by helping participants build friendships and meaningful relationships.
  • Collaborate with Oshki-Giizhig staff, families, and other members of the participant’s support network.

Requirements for Homeshare Providers
  • Provide a safe, stable, and suitable home environment that supports the participant's well‑being and independence.
  • Meet Provincial Residential Care Licensing standards. Oshki-Giizhig will provide guidance and support throughout the licensing process; previous knowledge or experience is considered an asset.
  • Successfully complete and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as an Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Provide a current Driver's Abstract and Driver Safety Rating (where transportation support may be required).
  • Participate in all required training, orientation sessions, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Other preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting individuals living with FASD, intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges, or other complex support needs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post‑secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
