Lead Addictions Counselor (Black Wolf Lodge) Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate substance use, wellness, and life skills programming to small groups using established curriculum and educational materials, in addition to land‑based and cultural activities
- Present engaging and practical substance use education sessions to participants using a strength‑based, culturally safe, and trauma‑informed approach
- Encourage participant involvement and meaningful discussion during group programming while fostering a respectful and inclusive environment
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage participants in open, supportive conversations
- Provide trauma‑informed support tailored to the unique needs and goals of participants
- Support participants in applying the knowledge and skills learned through programming to their personal recovery and wellness goals
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing training related to addictions and trauma‑informed practice
- Evaluate participant engagement and provide feedback to the leadership team to support continuous program improvement
- Maintain contact with participant’s support network so that goals and recommendations are integrated into the participant’s overall Support Plan
- Post‑secondary education in Addictions Counselling, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Psychology, or related field
- Certification or formal training in Motivational Interviewing is strongly preferred
- Criminal Record Check (With Vulnerable Sector Search), Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check. Driver license and access to reliable transportation.
- Full‑time 40 hours weekly
- 1‑year contract, with possibility of extension based on funding and program needs
- Flexible schedule required for outreach and travel to various locations
- The hours for this position are Monday to Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Hourly Wage: $28.88
