Keewatin Air has been operating in the Arctic for over 50 years and has extensive experience providing safe, high-quality Regional Medevacs and Charters throughout Central and Northern Canada. Also known as Kivalliq Air
. We are one of the most comprehensive aeromedical organizations in Canada, providing extensive 24-hour emergency air ambulance service.

Our corporate office and centralized administrative and support services are based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. And we operate a network of locations across Churchill and Thompson, Manitoba;
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; and Rankin Inlet, Igloolik, Cambridge Bay, and Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Although we operate charter airline services, our primary focus is and has always been medical travel. Whether it is moving passengers on our charter aircraft, or transporting critically ill patients by air ambulance, we have made medical travel our specialty. Our air medical program is recognized as one of the best air ambulance services in Canada.

Job Summary

The King Air Captain is responsible for the operation and safety of the aircraft and for the safety of all people on board during flight time. The King Air Captain must adhere to strict aviation regulations and procedures, and make critical decisions regarding flight paths, weather conditions, mechanical integrity and the ability to handle emergencies effectively.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) Certificate/Group 1 ME IFR
  • 2000 hours total flight time (500 hours multi pilot-in-command (MPIC))
  • MEDEVAC/Air Ambulance experience is considered an asset
  • Have a strong knowledge of Transport Canada regulations
  • Able to obtain Driving Airside License (D/A)
  • Able to obtain and maintain Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Valid Canadian Passport required and able to travel abroad unrestricted
  • Clear Current Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry and Vulnerable Sectors Check
  • Indigenous Awareness and/or Cultural Diversity training considered an asset
  • Be fully vaccinated with a Canadian approved COVID-19 vaccination
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Pre-flight duties familiarization:
    Route, aerodromes, winds, weather, navigation aids, alternate plans.
  • Ensure flight can be made safely and in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations.
  • Operate aircraft in accordance with CARS and take corrective action if safety is jeopardized, adhere to checklist for various flight phases.
  • Observe instructions and limitations in Operations Manual, Flight Manual, and Certificate of Airworthiness.
  • Follow Air Traffic Control, Communications, and Weather reporting procedures.> /li
  • Ensure aircraft operation within parameters for patients, report deviations in Captains Trip Report.
  • Report known or suspected aircraft defects to maintenance department and record in Journey Log.
  • Check weather for unusual conditions and take precautions to protect aircraft during stop-over.
  • Complete and submit associated paperwork (Journey Log, Flight Manifests, Captains Trip Report, Load Control forms, fuel slips, Dangerous Goods).
  • Follow flight procedures and notify authority of crew location.
  • Carry out any duties as detailed in the Safety Management System Manual.
Working Conditions
  • Shift Work Schedule Rotational as follows: 14 days on 14 days off.
  • Flights may involve operating into remote or challenging fields, requiring high levels of skill and adaptability.
  • Physical activities including, but not limited to lifting, sitting, standing, climbing and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; contact with staff and the public; employee must be able to adapt to outdoor weather conditions.
