The Fleet Manager – Fleet Management Program (FM FMP) is responsible for the overall productivity, performance, and satisfaction of their assigned carriers. The FM FMP will accomplish this through ongoing review of key performance indicators, followed by active participation in strategies to positively affect results. The FM FMP is expected to address issues that go beyond the scope of regular daily activity.

Must be well organized, an excellent communicator and have a keen sense of timeliness in prioritizing personal and fleet management program activities.

Responsibilities
  • Carrier Utilization & Productivity
    • Ensure assigned fleet capacity is fully optimized in the best interest of both the carrier and Bison Logistics, with a focus on maximizing miles per truck and meeting or exceeding utilization targets.
    • Actively manage day‑to‑day carrier trip execution and resolve issues to support a positive carrier experience and maximize miles.
    • Maintain a clear understanding of all tractor availability to ensure planning teams capture full capacity.
    • Monitor daily and future truck availability to proactively address gaps.
    • Collaborate with carriers and Bison OTR teams to minimize downtime related to breakdowns.
  • Carrier Planning
    • Ensure that assigned carriers are planned based on their set availability (PTA).
    • Proactively assign freight through the planning group and outbound planning tools, including advance outbound and reload planning.
    • Develop plans in alignment with Bison Highway Planning Standards, ensuring they are achievable, productive, and meet customer requirements.
    • Participate in carrier selection for dedicated runs and scheduled departures.
  • Carrier Management
    • Manage overall carrier performance in alignment with company policies, procedures, and contractual expectations.
    • Address utilization, level of service, tracing compliance, truck posting, safety and compliance issues, operational issues, carrier reviews, and carrier retention.
  • Carrier Retention
    • Support long‑term carrier relationships by proactively addressing concerns and enhancing the overall carrier experience.
    • Build and maintain strong working relationships with carrier contacts, including dispatch and ownership.
    • Resolve planning and customer service issues in a timely manner.
    • Address maintenance concerns and coordinate resolutions.
    • Support and escalate carrier pay‐related issues as needed and act on additional retention‑related matters.
  • Other Tasks
    • Contribute to the broader team and organizational initiatives as required.
    • Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Support freight brokerage activities as needed.
    • Contribute to additional programs and cross‑functional efforts.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1–3 years experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or a related role.
  • Experience working with carriers, dispatch, or load planning is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and coach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize personal and fleet management program activities with a strong sense of timeliness.
  • Strong organizational skills with a clear sense of urgency about planning and executing work.
  • Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness and flexibility under pressure.
  • Strong ability to adapt to varying situations.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving abilities.
Location

This position is open to candidates based in Winnipeg, Calgary, or Mississauga and requires on‑site work.
