Truck Driver

Responsibilities

• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, GPS, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
• Drive lighter, special‑purpose trucks. Load and unload goods. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
• Oversee vehicle condition, inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment. Perform brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, and preventive maintenance. Conduct pre‑trip, en‑route, and post‑trip inspections.
• Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption. Tarp cargo and ensure its safety and security.

• Education:
  
  Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
• Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:
  Driver's License (Class 1 or
  
  A).
• Documentation knowledge:
  Accident or incident reports;
  Bill of lading;
  Driver logbook;
  Inspection report (pre‑trip, en‑route, post‑trip);
  Maintenance and repair reports.
• Type of trucking and equipment:
  Dump truck.
• Communication systems experience:
  Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.
• Transportation/travel experience:
  Local, National, Provincial/territorial, Regional, Short‑haul.
• Security and safety:
  Basic security clearance;
  Driver's validity licence check;
  Driving record check (abstract);
  Drug test.
• Transportation/travel information:
  Own vehicle;
  Travel expenses paid by employer;
  Valid driver's licence.
