Long haul truck driver

Education:

Secondary (high school graduation certificate).

• Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed.
• Address customers' complaints or concerns and maintain professionalism in customer service.
• Drive as part of a two‑person team or convoy, load and unload goods.
• Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes.
• Oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
• Perform brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, and preventive maintenance.
• Conduct pre‑trip, en‑route, and post‑trip inspections and oversee all aspects of vehicle operation.
• Receive and relay information to central dispatch and record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption.
• Secure cargo by tarping and ensuring safety and security.

• Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi‑trailer trucks).
• Air Brake (Z) Endorsement.
• Documentation knowledge:
  Accident or incident reports, Bill of lading, Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre‑trip, en‑route, post‑trip), Maintenance and repair reports, Trans‑border documentation, Trip reports, Type of trucking and equipment:
  Refrigerated, Tractor‑trailer.
• Communication systems experience:
  Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.
• Transportation/travel experience:
  Long‑haul.
• Work conditions and physical capabilities:
  Attention to detail, physically demanding, repetitive tasks, sitting, weight handling up to 9 kg (20 lbs).
• Personal suitability:
  Efficient interpersonal skills, flexibility, judgement, organised, reliable, team player, hardworking, patient.
