Failure Analysis Lab Technician II – Benchmark

Benchmark is driven by a purpose to innovate for a healthier, safer, and better-connected world. As a Failure Analysis Lab Technician II, you will work on advanced aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and medical equipment to identify causes of failures and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Perform testing including sample preparation, cross‑sectioning, solderability wetting, X‑ray fluorescence, decapsulation, X‑ray imaging, microscopy inspection, and bench‑top electrical testing of passive/active components.
- Maintain work request logs and failure‑analysis laboratory metric summaries.
- Formulate structured failure‑analysis methods for defect determination.
- Contribute to the design of new laboratory capabilities.
- Train and serve as a backup operator on other lab equipment.
- Support safety, cleanliness, and appearance of the F/A lab daily.
- Perform all enhanced tasks with increasing independence, involving complex problems and limited supervision.
- Performance measured via Corporate and Divisional Balanced Score Card goals (Financial Performance, Customer Satisfaction, Operational Excellence, Employee Focus).
- Individual goals may be specific to the role, business segment, or contributions.
- 2‑year engineering or technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- 2–3+ years electronics experience (Level I‑II) or 4–6+ years electronics manufacturing experience (Level II).
- Ability to interpret standards, specifications, and technical papers.
- Willingness to investigate root causes and alternative failure‑analysis methods.
- Preferred electronic component level debugging skills.
- Understanding of sample preparation and optical microscopy methods.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal, multitasking, organization, and prioritization skills.
- High attention to detail, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Ability to support a 24/7 global operation, work overtime, and engage diverse groups.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Perform repetitive movements with arms, lift or pull up to 10 pounds at least 30% of the workday.
Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 0700‑1530. Compensation: $28–35 USD per hour, variable based on skill, experience, and performance. Full‑time benefits include a Bonus Plan, 401(k), Paid Time Off, and Health, Dental, Vision Insurance.
This position is safety‑sensitive. Benchmark will conduct a pre‑employment drug screen where permitted and adheres to local legal requirements regarding cannabis testing.
