Swing Bed Hospital Transporter

Description Job Summary

Transport Swing Bed patients in a safe, timely and medically appropriate manner to and from scheduled medical appointments and pick up from referring hospital and transport to THMH within a 120-mile radius. Administration may approve longer distances if needed. This role ensures patients are moved with compassion, dignity, and professionalism, while adhering to hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety guidelines.

There will always be medical personnel accompanying the patient during transport.

• Safely transport patients via THMH transport van to scheduled medical appointments
• Safely transport patients via THMH transport van from referring facility to THMH for admission to Swing Bed
• Assist patients in and out of the transport van safely
• Operate wheelchair lift and other accessibility equipment as needed
• Monitor and report vehicle condition, maintenance needs, and any incidents or issues that occur during transport
• Ensure the vehicle is clean, sanitized, and ready for patient use
• Adhere to all traffic and safety regulations to ensure the well‑being of the patient
• Respect patient privacy and confidentiality, adhering to HIPPA guidelines and other relevant regulations
• May require flexible hours depending on appointment schedule for patients
• Successfully pass the security training that will be offered at THMH

• Exemplary driving skills and a clean driving record to ensure patients safety during transportation
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicle is always in excellent working conditions (Check off list provided)
• Ability to follow and understand GPS and other navigation systems to reach destination in a timely manner
• Physical fitness and strength to assist patients in and out of the vehicle, including those with mobility issues or using wheelchairs or other aids.
• Knowledge of basic first and CPR is a plus
• Patience and empathy to work with patients who may be in distress or discomfort
• Excellent time management skills to ensure punctual pickups and arrivals at appointments
• Having a working cell phone that can be used to communicate with THMH, discharging facility and to call 911 if needed.

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license

• Driving any type of transportation vehicle is a plus, but not required

• Must be in healthy physical condition
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, sit, stoop and walk without restrictions
• Must have good vision and hearing
