Tool Maker Tool Room

The toolmaker is responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dies), special guides and holding devices. They will work with a variety of materials including steels, aluminum, high‑temp alloys and plastics. The role also involves operating computer‑numerically controlled (CNC) machines, so an understanding of g‑code programming is necessary.

• Assembling, fitting and repairing tools
• Following engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool
• Using machinery such as manual and CNC lathes, manual and CNC mills, presses, and grinders to cut and shape the tools
• Using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)
• Using precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, microhite, etc.
• Assisting with tool maintenance
• Scheduling workflows in the tool room
• Supporting engineering staff in the design of tools and dies
• Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and organized fashion that follows all required safety policies and regulations

• 3+ years of toolmaking experience is preferred
• 3+ years of running manual and CNC lathes and mills
• Ability to read drawings and process sheets
• Working knowledge of GD&T
