The Project Accountant will work closely with Omega Construction’s Assistant Controller and Controller in the company’s Finance & Accounting Department. The individual in this position will be responsible for ensuring accurate project financial reporting and maintaining effective communication with and providing support for project management teams. This role requires an understanding of construction accounting principles ("job cost accounting"), attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple projects at a time.

Key Responsibilities- Project Accounting:
Work closely with project teams to maintain accurate financial records and information on construction projects: monitor project budgets, track job costs, make cost adjustments, and analyze variances. - Support the Assistant Controller and division directors with conducting monthly cost projection meetings, including preliminary reviews of project financial performance and the preparation of meeting materials.
- Assist project teams with compiling monthly applications for payment.
- Assist in the management of change orders in the company’s ERP system (Vista).
- Work with project coordinators to ensure job information is correct and to improve the timely closeout of jobs after projects are completed.
- Review outstanding project receivables, payables, and over billings/under billings and coordinate follow-up actions with project teams.
- Assist with month-end and year-end processes, including the preparation of the work-in-process (WIP) schedule, journal entries, and compiling supporting documentation.
- Record monthly job cost adjustments (examples: insurance and equipment charges).
- Assist with processing payables transactions and resolving vendor issues, as needed.
- Assist with ad-hoc projects.
- Assist with the maintenance and administration of the company’s subcontract management (GCPay) and expense management (SAP Concur) platforms.
- Maintain documentation of the Finance & Accounting Department’s processes and policies.
- Contribute to the development and execution of financial and accounting training programs for project teams.
- Aid users across the company with troubleshooting issues in ERP system (Vista).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of construction accounting experience – knowledge of job cost accounting and work-in-process (WIP) reporting.
- Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Vista/Viewpoint, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
- Attention to detail, communication skills, and an ability to collaborate with project teams
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects
