Senior Staff Accountant
We are a growing professional services organization supporting small to mid-sized businesses. Our focus is delivering accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and practical accounting support that helps organizations make better decisions. The Senior Staff Accountant is a hands-on accounting professional who leads day-to-day accounting activities while mentoring and training junior staff. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and deadlines.
This is not a “sit quietly and post journal entries” role. You will lead, review, coach, and improve processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee and perform daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and cash transactions.
- Prepare and review journal entries including accruals, payroll-related entries, taxes, loan activity, and benefit deductions.
- Perform and review monthly reconciliations including bank accounts, credit cards, sales tax, payroll taxes, and benefit accounts.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data.
- Partner with leadership, controllers, or external advisors to support financial reporting and analysis.
- Lead, train, and mentor junior accounting staff, including review of work and guidance on best practices.
- Assist with process improvements, documentation, and implementation of accounting controls.
- Manage multiple clients or internal stakeholders while meeting strict deadlines.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Progressive hands-on accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and review the work of others.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional and confident client or stakeholder interaction skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with accounting software. Quick Books Online experience is a plus.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems, processes, and procedures.
