Job Overview
Forsyth County's General Services Department has an opening for Sr. Automotive Technician. The Senior Automotive Technician is a hands‑on tech that works on a wide variety of vehicles. This position will have the ability to work on fleet vehicles, emergency vehicles, as well as specialty vehicles. Technicians perform everything ranging from PM’s and tire changes to engine replacements and vehicle upfits.
The Senior tech is also a leader in the shop and fills in during Fleet Supervisors absence.
Work Schedule:
8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday with on‑call work as needed.
Uniforms, safety shoes, and tool stipends are offered to qualified employees.
CompensationSalary will depend on qualifications (experience & education).
Key Qualifications- Considerable knowledge of computerized and electrical systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to organize and direct the work of subordinates.
- Ability to diagnose accurately the cause of mechanical failures.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions of mechanical work.
- Thorough knowledge of the uses of a variety of repair tools and special testing equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of gasoline engines.
- Graduation from high school and four years of experience working with computerized and electrical automotive systems.
- ASE Certifications preferred, and candidates should be eligible to receive and pass GM or AC Delco specialized electronics training.
- Must have a valid N.C. driver's license.
- Must have the ability to obtain a N.C. Vehicle Inspection License.
- A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
- Trains and instructs mechanics on vehicle repair procedures.
- Diagnoses the problem based on information obtained from the driver. Performs N.C. vehicle safety inspections.
- Assists in managing garage operations.
- Assists other mechanics in diagnosing and repairing vehicle defects.
- Services and repairs a variety of County vehicles to include working on complex electrical and computerized systems.
- Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
- Performs related duties as required.
