Position Information

Title: Resident/Activities Counselor (Student)

Responsibilities and Duties

Duty/Emergency Response & Residential Living Obligation

  • Present each evening for nightly camper check‑in.
  • Serve in a shared weekday and weekend duty/emergency response coverage rotation.
  • Walk rounds of the residence hall each evening while on duty.
  • Sleep on campus nightly unless approved for a night away.
  • RC/ACs are required to live on campus residentially for the duration of the job.

Office Hours & Administrative Duties

  • Work 30‑35 hours per week distributed between office shifts, staff meetings, supervisor 1:1 meetings, room inspections, and nightly camper check‑in.
  • Maintain an organized and clean office.

Customer Service

  • Treat campers, guests, Summer Leadership staff, and colleagues with courtesy and respect.
  • Counsel campers with personal and art concerns.
  • Respond to all questions, inquiries, and comments in a timely and professional manner.
  • Practice active listening, be observant, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Dress, speak, and behave in an appropriate, professional manner.

Facilities

  • Identify and immediately report any facility and safety/security needs.
  • Report facilities issues through the established work request system and notify supervisor(s) of urgent issues.
  • Conduct daily visual inspection of the residential hall and furnishings for damage.
Compensation

Salary: $3,420 for the approximate five‑week commitment (including one week of training).

Housing: Included in Artist Village.

Meal Plan: Partial meal plan included.

Schedule and Work Hours

The position is a five‑week live‑in position plus one week of comprehensive training. The virtual portion of training begins June 15, 2026. Residents move to campus on June 14 and move out July 18. Work ranges from 30‑35 hours per week.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 3 years post high school graduation.
  • Must be able to live residentially on the UNCSA campus for the duration of the job.
  • At least one year experience working in a similar environment with students.

Preferred

  • Interest and experience working with high school student populations.
  • Previous residence hall experience.
  • Organized, responsible, and able to work independently.
