Senior Transportation Construction Inspector

Join HDR as a Senior Transportation Construction Inspector. This role involves performing construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and/or bridge projects using NCDOT policies and procedures. You may serve as lead inspector responsible for all inspection and documentation, manage other inspectors, and ensure designs are built to the highest standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform construction engineering and inspection on highway and bridge projects.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies or conflicts within contract documents.
  • Enforce project documents and maintain inspection documentation.
  • Lead and manage other inspectors as needed.
  • Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections throughout NC.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience inspecting transportation projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Licensed to operate motor vehicles under applicable state law.
  • Experience with NCDOT.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (or 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience can substitute).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must pass drug‑screening procedures prior to hiring; subject to ongoing testing.
