A significant result of the nursing shortage is the limited number of qualified nurse educators. To meet instructional needs, adjunct faculty are integral to the curriculum and faculty structure in the Division of Nursing (DON). Without adjunct faculty, the DON would be unable to meet its instructional needs. Adjunct faculty positions allow the DON to hire experienced nurse educators, clinicians, and practitioners to assist in meeting the division's mission, vision, and objectives.
Adjunct faculty focus principally on excellence in instruction and engagement. In addition to classroom, clinical, and/or online instruction, adjunct faculty provide clinical and practicum supervision of nursing students and collaborate with healthcare agencies, professional organizations, and other constituencies. They are critical to implementing the curriculum, supervising students, and achieving learning outcomes. Adjunct faculty coach and mentor students during the academic experience and beyond.
