ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.

POSITION SUMMARY

The ESL Specialist will lead two evening ESL classes serving immigrant and refugee learners in High Point and Winston-Salem. This position requires a blend of strong classroom teaching skills and the ability to develop relationships, design programs, and train others.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and teach two evening ESL classes at designated sites in High Point and Winston-Salem
  • Design a beginner and upper-beginner curriculum for adult refugee and immigrant learners, utilizing program curriculum to build English communication skills for employment, community navigation, and social connection.
  • Assess and orient new students and track program participation and progress
  • Manage student records in an organized and confidential manner, including attendance, testing records, and enrollment information
  • Collaborate with Programs team to conduct regular student assessments and collect student feedback
  • Develop a trainer curriculum and toolkit for volunteer instructors
  • Serve as the primary trainer-of-trainers, preparing volunteers to independently teach ESL classes
  • Provide ongoing coaching, modeling, and support to volunteers as they build instructional capacity
  • Help establish three new volunteer-led ESL class sites (anticipated at partner church locations) by year-end
  • Build and maintain community relationships for referral pathways for intermediate/advanced learners
  • Represent the program in community gatherings, meetings, and partnership-building activities
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and collaborative planning sessions
  • Communicate regularly with students and staff to ensure program alignment and learner success
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Adaptability and initiative in an evolving program environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative community partnerships
  • Creative problem‑solving skills
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of the refugee resettlement process preferred
  • Knowledge of a second language or experience learning English as an additional language highly desirable
  • Experience training or mentoring instructors or volunteers highly desirable
