Job Summary:
The Mathematics adjunct instructor teaches up to two courses in the Mathematics program, preparing and delivering in-person learning activities designed to achieve course outcomes. Specifically, this position is needed to teach one or both of the following courses during the Spring 2027 semester:
Elementary Functions and Graphs — a pre-calculus course that includes trigonometry — scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 3:00 - 4:15 pm;
Finite Mathematics — a course that introduces quantitative topics that are beneficial to liberal arts students, including the mathematics of finance, introductory statistics, and elementary probability — scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00 - 4:15 pm.
The adjunct will develop course materials including a syllabus, homework assignments, and content for the Course Management System (CMS). They will evaluate and grade students’ class work, online work, assignments, and examinations and hold a minimum of two regularly-scheduled office hours per week throughout the semester. They must maintain and submit student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by specified deadlines, as well as prepare and maintain course materials within the Salem College CMS and communicate with enrolled students through a Salem email account.
Additionally, they will participate in periodic meetings with one or more members of the Mathematics program faculty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaches one or two courses in the Mathematics program
Prepares and delivers in-person learning activities in order to achieve course outcomes
Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and material for Course Management System (CMS)

Qualifications
Required Qualifications Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate-level course hours in mathematics or related disciplines
Excellent communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills
Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of the community
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching classes in Mathematics at the undergraduate or graduate level as instructor of record
Experience in instructional technology
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or equivalent
