Job Description
Join Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist.
Job SummarySupports areas including radiation safety, general safety, chemical safety, hazardous materials/waste, industrial hygiene, fire safety, and environmental affairs. Conducts and monitors inspections for safety, chemical, radiation, and environmental hazards, and investigates complaints of hazardous conditions.
Maintains documentation on hazards and follow-up reports, and provides technical assistance on safety, chemical, radiation, and environmental issues. Conducts audits, trend analysis, and site inspections of operations affecting facility design, faculty, teammate, student, and visitor safety.
What You'll Need- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Three years of experience in radiation and/or hazardous waste management or environmental management, or equivalent education and experience.
- Certified Hazardous Material Manager preferred.
- Other environmental, radiation, fire, safety, health, or industrial hygiene credential or training certifications will be considered.
- Adheres to organizational standards, follows policies and procedures, and contributes to overall quality of service.
- Assists in periodic inspections of facilities for compliance with biosafety, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, laboratory, radiation, and general safety standards.
- Collects chemical, biological, or radioactive waste, maintains hazardous waste accumulation areas, and assists with the coordination of the radioactive materials waste management program.
- Assists in evaluating, collecting, preparing, and inventorying hazardous chemicals and/or radioactive materials for transport and disposal.
- Works with Principal Investigators and laboratory staff to set up, maintain, move, or close a lab, including introduction, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes.
- Assists in performing tests, repairs, maintenance, and monthly calibrations of environmental, radiation, and industrial hygiene detection and monitoring equipment.
- Completes required reports for external agencies, maintains supporting documents, and assists with the Environmental Management System (EMS) and electronic chemical inventory system.
- Responds to disaster or emergency situations, analyzes and determines proper procedures for mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery.
- Training in chemistry and regulations related to safe handling of chemical agents, radioactive materials, hazardous materials response, OSHA General Industry Standards, or hazardous waste management.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of safety, health, and environmental regulatory standards.
- Expertise in word processing, spreadsheet software, and presentation development.
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Experience using monitoring equipment related to spill response.
- Ability to work with others in a team-oriented environment across multiple departments.
