At Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services, we are helping to create brighter, healthier futures for our patients and their families. We are the Piedmont Triad's only private psychiatric hospital meeting the chemical dependency illnesses and behavioral healthcare needs of those in our community.
Our 164-bed inpatient services for adolescents through senior adulthood offer comprehensive and individual assessments, psychiatric evaluation and medication stabilization, daily group therapy and personalized aftercare planning. We also offer a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program to ensure the continuum of care for our patients. Old Vineyard is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

PRN (as needed)
We are currently seeking a PRN Recreation Therapist to join our talented and caring team. This position must have availability to work some weekend days. Our ideal candidate will possess strong multitasking skills, the ability to provide compassionate and competent care to a diverse patient population, must be able to build and maintain positive professional relationships with all hospital staff and patients, as well as demonstrate professional, effective communication skills.
PositionSummary
The Recreation Therapist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide therapeutic recreational and activity services to adolescents and adults under the care of Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services.
Specific tasks include:
- Implements evidence-based treatment interventions to restore, remediate and rehabilitate specific aspects of cognitive, emotional and social functioning through recreational and activity therapy.
- Performs clinical assessment from a recreational therapy perspective and interprets results to best implement activity treatment plan.
- Maintains clinical and administrative documentation associated with services rendered, including assessments, group notes and treatment plans.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in following with federal law and hospital policy.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female adolescents and adults, as well as dually diagnosed adults. In absence of these qualifications upon hire, must demonstrate ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within reasonable time frame via the organization’s orientation and training program.
Education
:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Experience
:
One year minimum recreation therapy experience. Previous experience in behavioral health field preferred.
Licensure/Certification
:
Current certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) and current license by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy (LRT).
Physical Requirements
:
Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform CPI physical, verbal and non-verbal techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending physicians, and other department representatives.
