Desktop Technician

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC – Winston‑Salem, NC

Job Summary

A Desktop Technician manages the lifecycle of IT hardware equipment, ensuring provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning processes run smoothly. Responsibilities include provisioning hardware, conducting device checks, managing inventory and returns, prioritizing ticket requests, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Essential Functions
  • Provision hardware equipment for associates (laptops, desktops, cell phones, desk phones, tablets, etc.) within the scope of IT Services.
  • Complete device checks to ensure all outgoing devices have required software and security tools installed per standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate IT asset inventory logs for all deployments and returns.
  • Manage onsite IT inventory levels and replenishment.
  • Handle equipment reclaim processes from field locations, ensuring timely return of assets.
  • Process all mail directed to IT Services.
  • Ensure IT office space cleanliness and organization of IT closet stock.
  • Test, refurbish, warranty, decommission, and recycle endpoints or IT equipment returned from the field.
  • Coordinate with third‑party vendors to ensure warranty repairs or replacements are handled timely.
  • Contribute to standard image updates, needs, and issue resolutions.
  • Prioritize and manage ticket requests via the ticketing system.
  • Document progress for each support request or project assigned.
  • Identify trends and document routine resolutions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to colleagues via phone, email, and in‑person.
  • Perform tasks during the weekly maintenance window(s) as required.
  • Assist with recurring day‑to‑day operations of all IT systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for inventory management and endpoint lifecycle.
  • Offer in‑person support to associates visiting the IT office for assistance or onboarding.
  • Provide remote support to associates for projects, rollouts, or objectives.
  • Engage in IT projects as identified.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. The employee will regularly communicate verbally and in writing, and must be able to see and hear in a typical office setting. The role frequently involves sitting, walking, standing, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with arms and hands.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing systems. Occasional business travel may be required.
