Deputy Sheriff

The Sheriff's Office is seeking sworn law enforcement officers to join our team! An employee in this class performs a variety of duties in one of the major divisions of the Sheriff's Office including uniformed patrol, civil, courts, school resource officer, and transportation.

Employees in this role exercise independent judgment and discretion in various situations, requiring tact and firmness when dealing with the public. The work involves usual hazards of law enforcement and is performed under general supervision, with evaluation through conferences, observation, and review of records and reports. Schedules vary depending on assignments.

Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school or GED and completion of NC basic law enforcement training (BLET), meeting standards set by the North Carolina Sheriff's Standards and Training Division. All applicants must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal records, polygraph, psychological/medical screening, physical fitness, and a reading comprehension test.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, investigating crimes, making arrests, serving civil papers, conducting property sales, maintaining safety in schools, opening and closing courts, transporting prisoners, cooperating with other law enforcement agencies, transporting individuals to facilities, providing protective escorts, operating speed detection devices, preparing reports, and conducting crime prevention programs.

Performs related duties as needed.
