Swimming Pool Coordinator

Overview

Under direction, to organize and direct a diversified program of recreational swim, water sports and swimming instructions; to supervise lifeguards and others operating and maintaining municipal swimming pools; and to do related work as required.

• Assign and schedule staff to provide adequate coverage during operating hours.
• Monitor in-service training; maintain surveillance of swimming and diving areas to prevent mishaps; assist swimmers from water when in difficulty; apply resuscitation and administer first aid treatments; enforce swimming pool regulations.
• Monitor swimming instruction classes to determine adequacy of instruction and improvement of students.
• Mentor lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities; interface with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or other significant issues and provide input and feedback while responding to problems.
• Teach swimming, collect fees and handle funds; keep various financial and service records.

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to two years of college and four years of experience as a lifeguard or swimming instructor.

Certifications required:
American Red Cross Lifeguarding or YMCA Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Certifications desired but not required:
Water Safety Instructor Certification and Certified Pool Operators certificate.

Knowledge of pool operation including plant and program; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions needed for safe swimming pool operation; ability to organize a comprehensive activities program; ability to teach swimming lessons; ability to deal tactfully with the general public.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; frequent swimming, standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision, close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision requirements;

vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires observing general surroundings and activities;

work requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work occasionally requires exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
