Part‑Time Bus Driver
University of North Carolina School of the Arts seeks a reliable and safety‑oriented driver for campus transportation. The position requires driving state vehicles to transport students and patrons to local and statewide destinations while maintaining compliance with traffic regulations and school conduct policies.
Responsibilities- Obey all federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, administrative codes, and transportation operation guidelines.
- Follow traffic laws and mandatory safety regulations for buses, including clearing the bus and evacuating students quickly during emergencies.
- Maintain safe driver standards and meet applicable physical and dexterity requirements.
- Supervise students, enforce discipline during transport, and comply with the school Code of Conduct.
- Exercise responsible leadership on school field trips both within and outside the district.
- Report all accidents and comply with post‑accident drug testing requirements.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑inspection activities such as checking for mechanical defects, fuel/fluid levels, items left on the bus, vandalism, and cleanliness.
- Participate in onsite training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Be available evenings, weekends, and occasionally on holidays.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Acceptable driving record as specified by the NC DOT and UNCSA.
- Acceptable criminal record as per UNCSA policy.
- Current CDL Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsement.
- Knowledge of safe and efficient bus operations and traffic laws.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards for buses.
- Familiarity with Transportation Department Operating Instructions.
- Ability to inspect the bus, detect mechanical defects, and keep the bus clean.
- Strong judgment, discipline management, and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.
Part‑time position. Available evenings, weekends, and occasionally holidays. $16.00 per hour.
