0030) and Firefighter II (FFP
0031).

Purpose of the Position

This position exists to ensure that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level.

Essential Functions of this Job Instructional Process
  • Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the district’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Make purposeful lesson plans that provide effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
  • Design a program of study to meet individual student needs.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Encourage student enthusiasm for learning and develop good study habits.
  • Provide progress and interim reports as required.
  • Prepare a substitute folder with appropriate information as requested by the building principal.
  • Plan and prescribe assignments for paraprofessionals, tutors, and volunteers as needed.
  • Recognize learning problems and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of subject matter and use effective oral and written expression.
Curriculum Development
  • Stay current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and share knowledge for continual curriculum improvement.
  • Assist in the ongoing curriculum revision process, including written courses of study.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Become acquainted with supplemental services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
Classroom Management
  • Develop, in accordance with district and building guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and consistent discipline techniques.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Share responsibility for supervising students in all school areas.
  • Provide supervision when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment.
Public Relations
  • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations; support them to the public.
  • Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and use of conference and planning time.
  • Communicate the positive aspects of the school program to the public.
  • Work cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with other staff.
Professional Growth
  • Continue professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
  • Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Cooperate with administration in planning appropriate in‑service training programs.
  • Attend staff, department, and committee meetings as required.
Student Evaluation
  • Evaluate student achievements using multiple assessment methods such as teacher‑made tests, work samples, mastery skill checklists, criterion‑referenced tests, and norm‑referenced tests.
