Patient Care Coordinator – Dental Assistant
Assisting dentist in providing dental treatment, caring and educating patients. Requires strong clinical knowledge and understanding of back‑office operations. Must hold an Expanded Duties Certificate and/or Radiography Certification at hire or within ninety (90) days.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in clinical procedures and treatments.
- Learn and comply with Coast's administrative procedures, OSHA laws, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Follow state and federal infection control standards, including use of protective barriers, disinfection, sterilization, and proper waste disposal.
- Review and complete documentation: accurate medical history, alerts, and signed consent forms.
- Document all dental procedures performed at each patient visit per dentist's instructions and legal requirements.
- Welcome and escort patients; schedule appointments and confirm calls.
- Provide dental education and information to encourage patient awareness and continuity of care.
- Present dental treatment plans and proposed continuing treatments professionally.
- Explain insurance benefits and financial options in non‑clinical terms.
- Ensure operatories are equipped and stocked; reorder inventory when necessary.
- Maintain equipment protocols: clean evacuation system, lubricate handpieces, maintain radiograph processors, and keep lab and office hygienic.
- Notify Office Manager of equipment failures or safety concerns.
- Assist laboratory duties as needed.
- Recognize signs of a dental emergency and respond promptly.
- Adhere to production standards and use communication systems for patient follow‑up.
- Maintain a professional working environment; attend morning huddles and regular office meetings.
- Adhere to uniform attire and personal hygiene standards per policy.
- Attend continuing education and training seminars as scheduled.
- Understand and comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Retain license (Registered, CDA or EFDA) and demonstrate proficiency in expanded dental assistant functions per state guidelines.
- Active Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification.
- Or, if assisting in Florida, a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certificate obtained before May 2009.
- Radiography certification.
- Minimum of one year dental experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a high‑volume environment.
