401(k) Participant Education Specialist

A 401(k) Participant Education Specialist teaches employees about their employer-sponsored retirement plans by conducting workshops, one‑on‑one meetings, and using digital tools. The role focuses on enrollment, investment choices, contribution strategies, and retirement planning, simplifying complex concepts such as company matches, loans, and withdrawal rules to boost participation and financial wellness.
Responsibilities- Educate on plan rules, benefits, company matching, and enrollment processes.
- Provide investment guidance – teach fundamentals, risk tolerance, and asset allocation (without giving specific investment advice to avoid liability).
- Conduct educational sessions, including group workshops, webinars, and one‑on‑one meetings.
- Promote financial wellness by integrating broader financial literacy, behavioral finance, and retirement readiness concepts.
- Support plan sponsors in creating effective education policies and meeting fiduciary duties.
- Strong financial knowledge of retirement plans, investing, and regulations.
- Excellent public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to simplify complex financial topics for diverse audiences.
- Tech savvy – familiarity with retirement plan software and virtual communication tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience working with 401(k) plans.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must hold a Series 65 license.
