- Read blueprints and perform shop math converting fractions to decimals to layout, fabricate and weld various parts and assemblies.
- Perform all welding procedures prescribed in AWS and ASME publications for MIG and STICK welding (SMAW) on multiple types of metals in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions. A heavy concentration of MIG welding aluminum will be required.
- Use grinders, sanders, rivet guns, saws and other air tools, and read English and imperial (standard) tape measures and measuring devices to convert fractions to decimals.
- Inspect welds for cracks, burn‑through, weld spatter, lack of fusion, craters, and other defects.
- Understand and carry out verbal and written directions in English.
- Maintain a safe work environment and perform maintenance on welding equipment when necessary.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing in and out of buses.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs without assistance.
- Work with arms above head.
- Work from ladders or scaffolding.
- Must not be allergic to smoke, grinding or fiberglass dust.
- Work in 105‑degree heat for more than ten (10) hours per day.
Overtime may be required based on business needs. This position may require mandatory overtime up to three (3) out of four (4) Fridays per month.
Required Education, Skills and Experiences- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two years of experience in welding using MIG or TIG welding machines.
- Must pass and maintain in‑house AWS Welder Certification.
- General knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
