Position Summary

The Pipe Laborer supports the installation of underground utility systems, including water, sewer, and storm drainage
. This position works closely with equipment operators and pipe layers to prepare trenches, handle materials, and ensure proper pipe installation and site cleanup.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain).

  • Excavate and prepare trenches using hand tools and small equipment.

  • Measure, cut, and prepare pipe materials as directed.

  • Assist in setting and aligning pipe to proper grade and line.

  • Place, compact, and backfill materials around installed pipe.

  • Maintain trench safety and proper shoring/sloping per OSHA requirements.

  • Keep work areas clean and organized; handle materials and tools safely.

  • Assist equipment operators and pipe layers as needed to meet daily production goals.

  • Follow all company safety policies and wear proper PPE at all times.

Qualifications
  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in construction or underground utilities preferred (will train the right candidate).

  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in and around trenches safely.

  • Willingness to learn and follow direction from foremen and pipe layers.

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with underground utility installation.

  • Familiarity with trench boxes, grade stakes, and pipe materials (PVC, RCP, DIP).

  • OSHA 10 Certification.
