Purpose of the Role
To lead and coordinate the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring that all pupils receive personalised, high‑quality support that enables them to achieve their potential. The SENDCO will champion inclusive practice, work collaboratively with staff and external agencies, and model professional integrity and the EPIC values as outlined in the Staff Code of Conduct.
We are a small school which effectively supports children through their educational journey. Our pupils may have previously experienced significant and prolonged periods of disengagement and/or disaffection in their education. This may have impacted negatively upon their previous levels of achievement and motivation to succeed are committed to making sure that all pupils learn and are engaged in a meaningful and worthwhile education, which provides them with the means to enjoy achievement, success, and increased independence.
Key Responsibilities- Support with the strategic development of SEND provision in the school
- Complete Annual Reviews, Interim reviews and Emergency Reviews of EHCPs in line with the SEND code of practice
- Responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the SEND policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
- Oversee the looked‑after pupils within the school
- Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
- Advise on the use of the school’s budget and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively, including staff development
- Promote inclusion in the school community and access to the curriculum
- Lead and manage staff and the effective deployment of staff and resources
- Lead on interventions that will support all pupils
- Quality assurance of teaching and learning with a focus on SEND provision
- Attend and review PEP meetings
- Have an accredited SENDCo qualification
- Hold QTS or QTLS
- Are passionate about education and inclusion
- Can effectively manage the SEND provision in partnership with the Headteacher
