Job Overview
Astute's Power Team is exclusively partnering with MVV Environment LTD to recruit a highly experienced Facility Manager for their flagship Energy from Waste Power Station, currently under construction in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. The facility provides a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 625,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate over 50 megawatts of low‑carbon energy. This is enough to power over 150,000 homes in the local community once operational in 2029.
This is a critical role which will be involved with full site mobilisation activities including overseeing the construction & commissioning of the plant. You will play a lead role in the recruitment of approximately 40 staff to run the facility.
Responsibilities- Guiding the plant through the Construction & Commissioning phases and securing a successful handover, including taking part in construction, commissioning & start‑up activities.
- Operating the plant within the specified contract, achieving KPIs of personal and plant objectives and maximising efficiency to deliver cost savings and improve profitability.
- Maximising plant availability and effectiveness to improve profitability.
- Implementing & maintaining the relevant management systems to operate this new Energy from Waste plant, identifying process improvements to maximise opportunity and resolve root causes of issues as they arise.
- Supporting the wider Engineering & Project teams with technical issues during start‑up activities.
- Overseeing full CAPEX planning including budgeting, forecasting & facility master planning.
- Providing leadership and management in setting up the new team and setting clear and defined objectives to deliver the plant’s goals.
- Ensuring full site compliance for all health, safety, environmental and quality issues, including overseeing permits, audits, inspections & ISO compliance (OHSAS
18001, ISO
9001, ISO
14001). - Ensuring the Health, Safety and Welfare of all staff, support staff and subcontractors are ensured across the Energy from Waste facility & Materials Treatment Plant.
- Liaising with key stakeholders (Local Authority, Environment Agency, HSE, etc.) including the EPC Contractor for identifying build issues and holding regular construction meetings.
- Plant mobilisation, including the recruitment of all site staff.
- Ideally qualified with a degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Relevant qualification in Health & Safety such as IOSH / NEBOSH.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
- At least 10 years operational / engineering experience in a senior position on a large process plant, ideally Power Generation. Candidates from thermal CCGT, EfW, Biomass, Cogeneration / CHP plants will be actively sought.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation such as CDM, ISO, PPSR, LOLER, PUWER and Environmental Compliance & permits.
- Experience in plant mobilisation / seeing plants through commissioning to handover deemed highly advantageous.
- At least five years in a senior position with supervisory experience as well as budget / commercial experience (forecasting, P/L, contract management).
