Director of Mission Advancement & Communication

Position Summary:

The Director of Mission Advancement & Communication provides guidance, materials, and support for promotion, sales, marketing, and retention for membership and all Y programs, activities, special events, and philanthropy. This individual will train staff in the use of marketing and communication tools and strategies, and review/approve all flyers, signage, and social media posts for the association. The Director of Mission Advancement & Communication will also create materials for the annual campaign.

Essential Functions
  • Experience in website content management
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in new technology, social media, marketing, and communications
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word Press, Adobe Acrobat, Canva, Google Analytics, e‑mail, and the Internet
  • Ability to create a comprehensive marketing plan for multiple departments with team input
  • Ability to review, create, and write reports, flyers, and correspondence
  • Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills
  • Experience in planning, training, and implementing fundraising campaigns
  • Demonstrate experience in producing campaign materials
  • Experience in scheduling solicitation calls and conducting follow‑up and stewardship
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, capable of working effectively with board members, staff members, volunteers, consultants, and donors/prospects
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with strong follow‑up skills and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  • Attends staff & committee meetings and trainings as required, completes all online trainings, including staying current on new creative development programs
  • Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management
  • Organize and assist with special events
Enterprise Digital Marketing and E-Commerce
  • Managing all digital properties (web, email, social, mobile) to coordinate with center‑specific campaigns and initiatives
  • Serves as YMCA brand advocate and assures Y standards are maintained
  • Assist in implementing an annual strategic and tactical marketing integrated communications plan, consistent with the Y’s brand and voice, to build and inform target audiences, as well as to promote local campaigns and events
  • Proofreads and approves YMCA communication for grammar, content, branding compliance, and consistent messaging
  • In collaboration with branch and association staff, reviews and approves high‑quality marketing and communications materials and templates to support Ys programs and services
  • Keeps websites current and relevant, ensuring ease of use and access, expanding electronic marketing and communication tools
  • Coordinates with YUSA on all national initiatives
  • Supports and encourages application of YUSA best practices
  • An expert in identifying, implementing and working with the latest marketing technologies, enterprise application, bringing integrated multi‑phased marketing efforts to life and achieving goals
  • Proven ability to be an innovative, creative, proactive and self‑directed team player who works in a fast‑paced environment and meets deadlines
  • In‑depth knowledge in effective use of major social media platforms and analytics
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills, including ability to compose content, write and edit compelling stories
  • Experience in marketing planning, strategy and workflows, business process design, behavioral marketing, and data mining and analysis
